Common Questions
Common questions from amateur radio operators and ham radio station builders before starting a project.
-
VCTowers installs Rohn 25G, 45G, and 55G guyed towers, house-bracketed structures, and freestanding towers for amateur radio operators across New England and nationwide. Every installation is built to manufacturer spec with certified climbers on site.
-
Yes. VCTowers handles full rotating system integration — rotator mounting, antenna shelves, control line runs, and ring rotors. We install Yaesu, DXEngineering, Pro-Sis-Tel and compatible rotator systems on ham radio towers of all sizes.
-
Yes. HF and VHF Yagi antennas are pre-assembled and tested at our shop before arriving on site — this is an additional service that saves time and eliminates surprises on installation day. Before any antenna goes on the tower, we measure and verify it in the air first. If something is off, we catch it before it's bolted down at height.
-
Yes. Certified climbers are on site for every job. VCTowers does not subcontract climbing work to uncertified personnel. Certification documentation is available upon request.
-
Ham radio tower grounding and bonding is available as part of your installation scope. When included, systems are built to NEC Article 250, NEC Article 810, and Motorola R56 standards — ground rods, feedline bonding, and a written close-out document confirming the work.
-
Yes. The majority of ham radio tower work performed by VCTowers is on existing structures installed by others. Site conditions and structural suitability are assessed before any work begins.
-
Yes. VCTowers carries general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Certificates of insurance are available upon request for homeowners, contractors, and municipalities requiring documentation prior to work.
-
Yes. VCTowers installs LMR and hardline coaxial feedlines from antenna to shack with weathersealed terminations, UV protection, and color-coded routing for multi-antenna stations.
-
Yes. VCTowers serves amateur radio operators nationwide. Recent ham radio projects have been completed in New Hampshire, Maine, New York, and Florida. Travel and logistics are factored into every project estimate.
How It Works
01
Scope
Tell us about your site — tower type, antenna goals, feedline routing, and access. We confirm scope, guy wire clearances, and structural suitability before any estimate is prepared.
|
02
Estimate
Written scope of work and pricing delivered before any work begins. If something unexpected comes up on site, we talk through it before proceeding — no assumptions, no surprises.
|
03
Installation
Certified climbers on site. Tower erected, antennas hoisted, rotator integrated, feedlines run and terminated. Work performed to OSHA, NEC, and manufacturer standards throughout.
|
04
Documentation
Close-out report and field photos delivered on completion. Grounding system documented to NEC and R56 if in scope. Every ham radio installation has a paper trail.
